RETOUCHING & RESTORATION

Bring old or damaged images back to life!

Through-out my design career I’ve come across a lot of scenario’s where the images the client provided were less than ideal. Maybe they’re too blurry, the resolution is too low or they only have an old photograph that can’t be re-taken.

I’ve come up with many solutions and methods to help restore images either through complete re-creation, surgical editing or upscaling using artificial intelligence software. If you have some images for your project you’d like to use but you are afraid the quality is not up to scratch, feel free to ask me what can be done. You might be surprised with what’s possible.

Promotional photo for solo artist ‘Ryan Hart’

Originally taken in un-ideal lighting on a phone camera. First step with this project was to colour correct the skin tones, remove blemishes on the skin. Then add some atmosphere and depth with lighting and fog overlay’s. For a final touch I did a little bit of sharpening using both AI and Photoshop tools.

Logo restoration for ‘The Push’

‘The Push’ Reggae band came to me wanting to create something special for their 10 year commemorative album. When it came to the logo they wanted to use all they had was this low-resolution blurry version done by a designer that was now long gone and un-contactable. I was able to trace and re-create the old logo for them so it would look great printed on their new album and merchandise.

TISM re-release project

TISM (This Is Serious Mum) have been slowly chipping away at re-releasing their entire back-catalogue with some items dating back as far as 1986. All we’ve had to work with for some of these are old damaged CD, Cassette and Vinyl packaging that have been either photographed or scanned and had to be meticulously re-created and colour matched in the digital space to give them an entirely new life.
